Full Day Testing and Training

October 3rd, 2009

This morning I got to the fire station. We were doing the physical tests for the paramedic list and for the reserves. That took several hours in all. We had a lot of people go through the test. Unfortunately, the physical agility test knocked a couple people out of the running. Our test is not overly hard, but from what I have heard from some people who have done other tests, they say ours is harder than others.

When the tests were done I went to pick up the recruitment signs that were placed around the city. I got those delivered to the fire station. I went to Safeway to get some garlic bread and then to the Deuce to start dinner. I was making some broccoli and chick fettuccine Alfredo with garlic bread. It was good stuff. I could have used more sauce, however.

When dinner was done we worked on radio operations and SOPs. We used photos that the Lt gathered to practice doing the arrival reports. Then he would ask us what we would do next. We talked about the decisions that people made and how they were good decisions or why we might decide to think about other options.

When the training was done we had to fill some air bottles on Rescue. We started to get some calls. We didn’t get slammed, but we did have about three calls on the night. One came in around three in the morning. That sucked.
